In 2002, the Council of SFN (Association of University Hospitals) suggested to the university hospitals a new quality care indicator – monitoring of patients´ falls during the hospitalization. The ambition of the Czech Association of Nurses (ČAS) was to increase the interest in this issues. Since 2010, 39 medical facilities are registered in the project, and that is more than 1/3 of the inpatient ward capacity in the Czech Republic.
Objectives of monitoring the occurrence of falls in medical facilities
The Czech Association of Nurses cooperates with the National Reference Center (NRC) in the field of quality of health care, especially on projects of Bedsores treatment at the national level.
The objective of this project is a cooperation during the development of indicators and standards, that should help to unify the nursing procedures, to equalize the regional discrepancies and to promote effective contracting of services, reflecting their benefit, quality and costs. These projects should solve the current differences in medical services and the high variability of medical procedures leading to lower quality and higher costs. The project „Bedsores treatment at the national level“ deals not only with the quality increase and the efficacy of nursing care, but also with the formation of methodical and systemic base for the development of the efficient and standardized indicators of bedsore´s occurrences and their testing in practice.

This project took place during the years 2011–2012 in five hospitals established by the region Vysočina. Its objective is to create a functional standard of nutrition care of an oncology patient during the course of his treatment. This project was implemented with the support of the Czech Association of Nurses in cooperation with the region Vysočina, the Czech Oncology Association, the University of Polytechnics in Jihlava and the company Nutricia. The authors of this project are Tamara Starnovská, RNT and Eva Chocenská, RNT, the nutrition therapists from the Czech Association of Nurses.
The project called „The intensification and increase of the level of professional knowledge of non-medical staff and other specialized staff in health care, focused on professional and vocational education in managerial skills” is co-financed by the European Social Fund under the Operational Program – Human Resources and Employment, whose general provider for the Ministry of Health is IPVZ (the Institute of Postgraduate Education in Health Care).
The safety of our patients and staff of medical facilities is the topic that interests all of us. The increased awareness of the safety in inpatient wards and awarding one Czech facility that significantly increased the patient and staff safety is the main goal of the annual nationwide competition “The Safe Hospital” and the conference “Days of safety” that took place in Jihlava. The intention of the region Vysočina was announced during the 1.year of the nationwide conference.
The main objective of this project is to create an effective educational tool (e-learning courses), which would facilitate to the participants the current knowledge in the field of medical technology in their native language. When creating these courses, the results of previous projects were used (the e-learning courses in English focusing on medical technologies); these were transfered to the partner countries and adapted for the needs of other target group (hospital staff). The aim of the project is to develop professional knowledge of the target group in medical technology, to meet the demand of the market. It was found, that the offered of training is not sufficient and often not updated in the area of medical technology, mainly because this sector experiences a rapid evolution.
